About Mr. Meyer
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me! I am so excited to work with the students and staff at John Muir Elementary! This is my 5th year as principal at John Muir and look forward to building upon the successes that we began together last year! I also look forward to meeting all of the new 2nd grade students as well other new students who join us this school year!
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2001. I began my career in education in Minnesota. While in Minnesota I taught 5th-8th graders, kindergarteners, and 2nd graders. In 2006 my wife, Liz and I decided to move closer to family and ended up in Reedsburg, where we currently reside. I was hired at John Muir Elementary School in 2006 to teach 6th grade students. I loved teaching the 6th graders for three amazing years and in 2009 switched roles within the school and became the Dean of Students and Student Achievement Coach. I learned something new each day in this role and gained a wealth of experience and knowledge with school-wide systems, curriculum, and assessments. I earned my Master's Degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota and my Educational Leadership Certification from Viterbo University.
When I am not at John Muir with my school family, I am at home with my own family! My wife, Liz and I have two amazing children, Jack and Madeline, our eight year-old twins. We enjoy spending time together as a family and especially like playing indoor and outdoor games. Jack and Madeline have become an indirect member of the John Muir family because they star in many of my teaching videos for students and staff. As Principal I see the education of our students through the lens of an educator but also a parent. I always ask myself the question-"Would this be good enough for my children?" Success for all children at John Muir is what I strive for each and every day. I am excited to work with all of you to achieve many great things together this year!
